Following
the revolutionary traditions of the Staro Zhelezare village, in 2017 we focused
on a utopian and at the same time avant-garde project of creating here the
center of modernity and openness in art. We wanted to try somehow to encourage
young people to return to the countryside. That is why the slogan of this
edition was "OPEN VILLAGE / VILLAGE AVANT-GARDE".

team and continued what we began, to saturate the village space. Meanwhile
Staro Zhelezare became famous in Bulgaria, our big surprise was the interest
from The New York Times, whose reporter personally visited the place and wrote

This summer the artistic program of the Center for Contemporary Art in the Bulgarian village of Staro Zhelezare takes the form of a mural festival for the second time. The slogan of this year's edition is the "Village of Personalities / Art for social change" and is the continuation of the 2013 project "Revitalization of the Bulgarian Village". This time the artistic duo Katarzyna and Ventzislav Piriankov, together with an invited group of young Polish artists, are creating murals on the walls and houses of Piriankov’s ancestral village throughout July. This month-long celebration of art both embraces and is embraced by the entire village transforming it into a venue of intensive, rapid global migration on both the real and symbolic level. This is mainly due to the form that the works of art take – murals. Seemingly absurd contact between distant worlds and remote cultures proves to be suddenly possible. The artificial distance is erased between the village granny and Queen Elizabeth or the local Gypsy and Barack Obama, while Boris III, Tsar of Bulgaria and Einstein are transported to the present only to find a cart pulled by a donkey, naturally. There are also Gandhi i Fidel Castro, who in fact visited the village in 70-s together with Todor Zhivkov.

We
are all descendants of immigrants seeking happiness – people have moved around
forever. Contrary to appearances, this remote village, which seems to be at the
end of the world, has always typified a symbolic and authentic cultural melting
pot. Orthodox Christians, Jews, Catholics, descendants of the Thracians,
Armenians and Gypsies all coexisted in the natural setting. This seething
multicultural mélange is being stirred today as we once again find ourselves in
an era of heightened mobility of not only people but also ideas and symbols.
In
this way Staro Zhelezare is being transformed into a unique village in the
heart of the Balkans where the walls and houses display world-renowned personalities
in the company of local heroes, otherwise known as regular, every day
residents. These encounters typically take the form of amicable meetings for
quiet, reflective exchanges of views. What do the subjects communicate to each
other? What can be learnt? That we can only possibly guess as it is the element
of surprise found in the sight of the collision of distant worlds which opens
new areas of reflection. The meeting of separate cultures at the individual
level touches upon what we are in fact looking for… authenticity and the
essence of our times.
And
this authenticity, as in Roland Topor's surrealistic stories, can be more
easily and accurately found in the situation's absurdity which best corresponds
to reality. One may trace in the murals what is so often sought in our prosaic
lives: the miraculous, or the poetry of everyday life, offering a mystery
revealed to few, and escape from fate. The characters bridge the geographic and
cultural divide between the village and faraway lands which are seemingly beyond
the outline of the world map. Such personalities meet outside of their own
realms, as in a fairy tale, a philosophical fable, or one’s own unbridled
imagination. They try to dodge destiny through these extraordinary discussions to
solve life’s puzzles. Sitting on the roadside benches in a neighborly fashion
participating in waiting for Godot, taking root and seemingly transforming and
undergoing an almost Kafkaesque metamorphosis. In this fashion they learn how
not to distinguish fiction from the truth... The key theme here is that thanks
to the use of absurdly associated images and through the phantasmagorical realm
imposed on the map of a Bulgarian village we can experience the essence of our
times.

Zhelezare) in central Bulgaria.
Their art projects are influenced by multiculture mixture of Central-Eastern Europe. Ventsislav comes from Bulgaria, Katarzyna is Polish, they both live and work in Poland and summer-time in Bulgaria.
Both in Poland (Poznan) and Bulgaria (Staro Zhelezare) they established Art Centers creating their character contextually to the place, and on the basis of their multiculture experience.

Staro Zhelezare 2015
2015, was the first year of StreetArt Festival under
the name “Village of Personalities / Art for social change”. For the first time
we invited 10 young artists from Poland, who were students of our School of
Drawing in Poznan. It was well organised team, prepared yet in Poland for the
project. Whole July almost every day young people were present on the village
streets and painted. The reaction was fantastic. Village space is quite big,
but the result was quite visible. It was undoubtly the beginning of Staro
Zhelezare new era.

A Bulgarian village becomes a work of art.
Thus arises the project "VILLAGE – A WORK OF ART". The idea behind the project is to transform the entire village into an immense work of art. "The Village of Personalities" - local heroes, or simply residents, are immortalized on the walls of homes in the company of invited prominent figures from the world of politics, culture and other public spheres. Homeowners are depicted with such personalities as Pope Francis, Queen Elizabeth II, Albert Einstein, the Dalai Lama, Margaret Thatcher, Barack Obama, Fidel Castro, Tsar Boris III, Boyko Borisov, and Hristo Stoichkov.

Wieś Staro Zhelezare staje się miejscem wydarzeń które

miejscowym cyganem Ivanem na przydrożnej ławce, David Cameron rozmawia z

Festiwal Murali
jest już trzecim wydarzeniem
artystycznym organizowanym w bułgarskiej wsi Staro Zhelezare przez duet
artystyczny na stałe mieszkający w Poznaniu – Katarzynę i Ventzislava Piriankov.
Jest to ciąg dalszy rozpoczętego w 2013 projektu „Rewitalizacja Bułgarskiej
Wsi”. Tego lata, działania artystyczne w
Centrum Sztuki Współczesnej Piriankovych przybierają po raz pierwszy formę
Festiwalu Murali, z udziałem polskich artystów. Hasłem tegorocznej edycji jest
„WIOSKA OSOBLIWOŚCI / Art for social change”. Tym razem, prowadzący Centrum,
wraz z zaproszoną przez siebie grupą młodych artystek z Polski,
najzdolniejszych uczennic Szkoły Rysunku Ventzi, przez cały lipiec malują
murale na murach i ścianach domów w rodowej wsi Piriankovych. Całą wieś ogarnia miesięczne święto sztuki,
podczas którego staje się ona miejscem intensywnych, gwałtownych migracji,
globalnego przemieszczania się w sensie zarówno rzeczywistym, realnym, jak i na
poziomie symbolicznym. Dzieje się to przede wszystkim za sprawą postaci, które
pojawią się na powstających dziełach sztuki, muralach. Styk odległych ze sobą
światów, kultur, okazuje się absurdalnie możliwy. Znika sztuczny dystans między
wiejską babą a królową Elżbietą, przybywa z przeszłości jak gdyby nigdy nic Car
Borys, czy Einstein, który tak naturalnie odnajduje się w bryczce ciągniętej
przez osła. Są również Indira Gandhi i Fidel Castro, którzy faktycznie
odwiedzili wioskę w latach 70-tych, w towarzystwie Todora Zhivkova. Wieś Staro Zhelezare staje się miejscem
wydarzeń które przejdą do historii polityki, historii realizowania idei
społeczeństwa otwartego. To właśnie tu przyjeżdża z wizytą Barack Obama by
spotkać się z miejscowym cyganem Ivanem na przydrożnej ławce, David Cameron

Wszyscy
jesteśmy potomkami imigrantów poszukujących swojego szczęśliwego miejsca.
Ludzie przemieszczali się od zawsze. Wbrew pozorom, ta odległa wieś, można by
rzec na końcu świata, od zawsze stanowiła symboliczny jak i autentyczny magiel
kulturowy. To naturalne środowisko, gdzie współżyli ze sobą Prawosławni, Żydzi,
Katolicy, potomkowie Traków, Ormianie, Cyganie. Kiedyś kipiało tu
multikulturowym życiem, z czego część do dziś świetnie funkcjonuje. Współcześnie
ponownie żyjemy w epoce intensywnej mobilności, nie tylko osób, ale także idei
czy symboli.
I tak Staro
Zhelezare stanie się jedyną wioską w sercu Bałkanów, w której na ścianach domów
i murach zobaczymy światowe osobistości w towarzystwie lokalnych bohaterów, a
raczej zwykłych mieszkańców. Zazwyczaj w sytuacji spotkania i spokojnej,
refleksyjnej wymiany zdań. Co nawzajem przekazują sobie bohaterowie? Czego się
dowiadują? Tego możemy się ewentualnie domyślać. Już sam widok spotkania za
sobą dwóch odległych światów, jest elementem zaskoczenia, przez co proponuje
nowe obszary refleksji. Odrębne kultury, spotykające się na poziomie
indywidualnego istnienia, dotykają tego, czego w gruncie rzeczy poszukujemy…
autentyczności, esencji własnych czasów.
I tę
autentyczność, jak w surrealistycznych opowiastkach Rolanda Topora, prędzej i
celniej odnajdziemy w absurdzie sytuacji, który tak naprawdę najlepiej
odpowiada rzeczywistości. Na muralach można doszukiwać się tego, czego tak
często poszukuje się w prozaiczności: cudowności, czyli poezji dnia
codziennego, tajemniczości objawiającej się nielicznym, ucieczki przed losem. Przybyli
do wsi bohaterowie z innych państw i kultur odbyli podróż w miejsce wyjątkowo
odległe, ulokowane zdawałoby się poza nakreśloną mapą świata. Spotykają postaci
z innego niż swojego świata, rodem z bajki, powiastki filozoficznej i własnej
nieposkromionej wyobraźni. Starają się umknąć losowi, rozwiązując łamigłówki w
niecodziennych dla nich rozmowach. Siedzą na przydrożnych ławkach
towarzysząc niemal po sąsiedzku w
czekaniu na Godota, zapuszczają korzenie i zdaje się że powoli transformują, ulegając
niemalże kafkowskiej metamorfozie. Uczą się jak nie odróżnić fikcji od prawdy…
Kluczowy staje się tu motyw, w którym za pomocą absurdalnie skojarzonych
wizerunków oraz za pośrednictwem fantasmagorycznej krainy nałożonej na plan
bułgarskiej wioski, doświadczyć możemy esencji naszych czasów.

Фестивал на толерантността,
мултикултурата, миграцията, метаморфозите и това, което би могло да бъде
действителност.
Това лято, артистичните дейности в Центъра за Съвременно Изкуство в
българското село Старо Железаре са под формата на Фестивал на Стенна Живопис. Названието на таз годишното издание
на Центъра е „СЕЛО НА ИНДИВИДУАЛНОСТИ/ Изкуство за социална промяна“. Това е
следващата стъпка на проекта „Ревитализация на българското село“, стартирал през 2013г.
Артистичният дует Катажина и Венцислав Пирянков, заедно с поканените от тях
млади артисти от Полша,
през целия месец юли ще рисуват по стените на къщите и оградите в родовото място на Пирянкови. През целия
месец юли, селото ще бъде завладяно от
празника на изкуството и ще бъде място на реална, бърза, глобална, символична и
интензивна промяна и миграция чрез творчеството. Това ще се осъществи най-вече чрез творческите образи върху стените в цялото село. Допирните точки на
отдалечените от себе си светове и култури ще се окажат абсолютно възможни. Чрез
изкуството върху стените ще изчезне дистанцията между селската жена и кралица
Елизабета, между местния циганин и Обама, ще дойдат от миналото цар Борис или
Айнщайн и всеки един от тях, съвсем естественно ще се намери в натуралната
селска среда – в каруца, теглена от магаре, например.
Всички сме потомци на имигранти, търсещи своето щастливо място. Хората
винаги са се премествали. Това отдалечено село – Старо Железаре, ей там – на
края на света, в случая се явява символичен и автентичен културен микс. То е
натурална среда, където винаги са живеели заедно и в разбирателство
православни, католици, евреи, арменци, потомци на траките, цигани. Някога, тук
е кипял интензивен многокултурен живот, част от които все още продължава да
съществува, като част от съвремието на интинзивно движение не само на хора, но
и на идеи и символи.
И така, Старо Железаре ще стане единственото село в сърцето на Балканите, в
което на стените по домовете и оградите ще видим световни личности в обществото
на местни герои, в действителност обикновенни хора. Обикновенни срещи , между
обикновенни хора, които обменят мнения. Какви взаимни послания си предават
героите? Какво научават един от друг? За това можем само да гадаем. Самата
картина на срещата между два различни свята е елемент на предизвикателство и
изненада и дава нови хоризонти за наблюдение. Различни култури, срещнали се на
нивото на индивидуалното съществуване, докосват това, което търсим в основата
на всичко... автентичност, есенцията на собственото ни съществуване и време.
Тази автентичност, като в сюреалистичните разкази на Роланд Топор, ще
намерим преди всичко в абсурдните ситуации на действителността. По стените ще можем да намерим
това, което така често търсим в прозаичността: красотата, поезията на
ежедневието, тайнствеността на неизмеримото, бягство пред съдбата. В селото
сякаш са дошли герои от други страни и култури след дълго пътуване до това
далечно място на края на света. Срещат
се герои от различни светове, като от приказките, с философски поглед към света и безкрайно
въображение. Стараят се да избегнат съдбата, като разплитат загадките на
нетипични за тях всекидневни разговори. Седят на крайпътните пейки, по съседски
чакайки идването на Годо, запускат корени и постепенно се преобразяват сякаш
като по метаморфозата на Кафка. Учат се да не различават истината от
илюзията... Чрез ключовия мотив на
абсурдно свързани образи с посредничеството на фантасмагорични картини,
наложини върху действителността на българското село, можем да усетим есенцията
на нашето време.

Катажина и
Венцислав Пирянкови – творци в областа на визуалните изкуства, живеиат и
работят в град Познан, Полша. Венцислав е завършил художествена
гимназия Цанко Лавренов, първи
курс живопис HXA в София. Cледваща година получава стипендия за продължение на
обучението си в град Познан, Полша. Във трети курс се запознава с Катажина, която току що започва да следва специалност
‘промоция на изобразително изкуство’. От
този момент започва тяхната свместна творческа кариера. Само след няколко години имат зад гърба си вече множество реализирани проекти и
изложби в Полша, България, Австрия, Германия, Италия, Китай и други. Притежават найголямата частна галерия както и
най-реномираната частна школа за визуалните изкуства в града. Катажина освен своята стрикте
творческа дейност, също е и куратор и арт критик.
От 2013 артистичният дует разширява своята дейност и в България, като
основава Център за Съвременното Изкуство в село Старо
Железаре. Авторите на проекта се интересуват предимно от изкуството което е социално и обществено ангажирано через което реално, действително достигат до обикновените хора, успешно и
спонтанно вклучваики ги в творческа дейност. Именно поради тази причина, те решават, че село Старо
Железаре е идеалното, перфектното
място за реализация на техните творчески
визии, идеи. Венци основно се занимава с живопис както и също с контекстуални
проекти (site specific projects) и пърформaнси.
Катажина се специализира в области като фотография, видео арт, колаж, концептуални реализации. Техните работи се характеризират с много свежост и оригиналност на местните мотиви и явления върху които поставят ирак, съвремен отпечатък контекстуално рефлектиращ в глобални измерения. Тяхното изкуство може да бъде дефинирано определено като пост-сюрреалистично, нео-експресивно, както също и обществено ангажирано.
